The Gina Sigman Gallery

In 2002, Laci Peterson disappeared from her home in Modesto, California.  She was 8 months pregnant with her son Connor.  Her husband Scott reported her missing and insisted he did not kill Laci even though he was shown to be the primary person of interest.  One year later, her remains and those of her unborn son Connor, were found washed up on the San Francisco Bay shore: proximal to the place Scott went fishing the day Laci went missing. Although there was insufficient evidence to prove cause of death, both mother and child were ruled homicide. Scott was charged with 2 counts of murder. At the beginning of the trial, it appeared Scott might not be convicted but the testimony of his paramour, Amber Frey, provided damning evidence of motive and attempts to conceal his guilt.  The most dangerous and vulnerable time for a woman is when she's pregnant. This is one of the most bittersweet drawings I've ever done. On July 5th, 2011, when the jury reached a verdict for Casey Anthony, a part of all of us, died that day. She was found innocent for the death of her daughter, Caylee. I have always felt a sense of frustration over this case. That's what inspired me to make this rendering of Caylee. It gave me a new mission and purpose.  Rather than helplessly fret over senseless murders like this, I plan to draw other victims and place them in a Gallery in which 100% of the proceeds will go to the victim's families. As for Caylee, she rests in the arms of Jesus. And for her mother, Casey: you may be free here on earth but the devil is preparing a special jail cell for you in the next life. Repent and confess.  

Out of all the paintings I've ever done, Peyton's Kiss has the most endearing story of all. Although I usually cringe at doing commissioned paintings, my long-time friend, Steve Adams, asked me to paint this picture of his friend Ashley's daughter, Peyton as a birthday gift.  I thought....sheesh...a baby kissing a mirror?? How the hell am I going to do this one? It seemed like a daunting task but I went to work and finished it in less than a week, mailing it off in time for Ashley'sbirthday party.. I was so touched when Steve sent me a video of her opening her present. Here was lady whom I'd never met and yet, I got to touch her life through my artwork.   God has blessed me with this talent and I never take it for granted. So here's Peyton.

I figured it was about time to feature some barnyard animals. Everyone loves roosters.  I wanted to paint this one, hoping to have some art to hang when I remodel my chicken...uh....I mean kitchen! You know, farm house style with a rooster theme. Alas, my kitchen still remains in desperate need of repair but my beautiful rooster proudly poses here for all to see and admire. Ain't he beautiful?

It's hard to believe that the movie, Almost Famous will be a quarter of a century old next year!  It was Kate Hudson's debut film. Her angelic blonde curls and impish smile were almost as sweet and beguiling as her co-star Patrick Fugit. This movie has stood the test of time and remains one of my favorite movies. Kate plays the role of the groupie and love interest of Still Water lead singer, Russell Hammond. Here she is, wearing that infamous shearling coat and peering through oval hippie shades, Miss Penny Lane.

There are so many John's out there but only ONE John Cowan.  John C.  That mane of platinum-gold spun hair, twinkling Irish eyes, and nimble blue grass picking fingers come together to make him an icon in both country and rock.   I had the pleasure of meeting John C years ago in Gretna Louisiana and he was just as friendly n down-home as the music he plays.  So...yee haw, John! Here is your painting! Welcome to the GSG!

Last week, I became the recipient of a complete hair makeover by my friend, Cindy who is my husband's pickleball student.  Cindy is a master colorist/stylist who works in Montecito, a prestigious area of Santa Barbara.  I knew my head was in good hands. I nearly cried tears of happiness as she handed me a mirror and spun me around in the salon chair to get a panorama of my new "do". All the gray, all the frizzy...GONE! I was moved to return the favor. "You want me to paint one of your dogs?" I asked. She answered resoundingly, yes and texted her favorite photo of her dog, Lucy. It took me several days to complete this rendering but I wanted to do a good job for my friend who gave me 2  precious gifts: her time and a head full of youthful-looking hair!  For all of the evil,  greed and negativity going on in this world, it is a comfort to know that there are still good people performing acts of selflessness and kindness.
